About Brea...

Brea is a Tasmanian-born artist who finds inspiration in fantasy. Growing up as a weird kid, she found it difficult to make friends, and was often found with her head buried in a stack of novels. Books were her earliest and best friends, followed very closely by the sheafs of loose printer paper she brought those stories to life on with HB pencils pilfered from her father’s office. Swords and sorcery, realms of magic, knights and fantastical creatures were often far more enticing than the banality of our world; and so she embraced them with her whole heart, drawing the world she wished she lived in.

A lifelong love of illustrations in fantasy novels (especially those of Chris Riddell and Tony DiTerlizzi) was later joined by a deep appreciation for mediaeval woodcuts, illuminated manuscripts, ukiyo-e and historical costuming; as well as cosmic horror, fantasy movies and video games. Drawing inspiration from all of these sources has led to Brea developing a personal style drenched in gothic influence, biblical symbolism and intricate detail.

These days Brea has branched out into digital art, but still prefers pencils and ink - there is no replacement for tradition. As a veteran Dungeons & Dragons player, she takes commissions for character art while also working as a graphic designer and marketing specialist in Launceston; and aspiring to write and illustrate a fantasy novel of her own.
